Summary
In 1948 the Soviets blocked the railway from west Germany into Berlin. They tried to stop France, Britain and the US from keeping the part of Berlin that they controlled from being able to get supplies. The allied forces eventually had the supplies flown in for over a year. They flew so many planes into the city and were successful in getting their supplies to the inhabitants. The Soviets eventually gave up trying to hold the blockade abandoned it.
