In 1949 as a result of the Berlin Blockade crisis the allied countries like the U.S., France, Great Britain got together and decided that the blockade was an attack on all of the countries, as a whole an attack on democracy. NATO was created their HQ was in brussels, this was the worlds first taste of successful collective security. The soviets countered this by creating the Formation of Warsaw pact. This was not successful due to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
